Teaching Fair Share

Today for Hailey Bug's Math we were teaching Fair Share. For this illustration all you need is some candy. We used her Halloween candy. First I had her make a pile with some of her candy. I then told her to sort the candy making sure that her and I got the same amount. Example: If she had 12 pieces of candy we would each get 6 pieces. We kept doing this activity until we reached 4 people. I then had her take out 3 more pieces of candy and add them to her pile of candy. Now it was time to sort again. This time there was not enough for us each person to have the same amount of candy. This lead to talking about "Fair Share". Hailey Bug seemed to really grasp this concept and when she did her BJU worksheets she did not ask for help at all.
