2013 Read Alouds

We treasure our read aloud time. I feel it is a great way for kids to learn to love literature. I love that we get to go on these adventures together. They get to hear books flow, and learn how read through my example. They get to see me enjoying literature. Laughing, crying, excitement, mystery, anticipation, joy, and learning. They get to hear it all in my voice. There are times we have been in the edge of our seats in anticipation, and time we have been bored out of our minds.

It is a great teaching time for my little boys. I get to teach them to sit and listen. I do allow them to play with something quiet while I am reading. Yes, they are in our reading time when we read chapter books. I try to choose classics, or books I think will be fun, and introduce them to different types stories that they may not have chosen for themselves. They get to sit with me, and it is our “special time”.

We also read story books. I feel that this is important as story books are simply short, fun, and cute.

I decided to keep a log of the books we have read and are going to read together this year. I will be adding to this list over time as we read. I think to will be fun to look at this list at the end of the year and remember the fun times (or not so fun times) we had with these books.
