Homemakers by Choice

Homemaking is a choice. Women didn’t always have that choice, but we do now. I chose to be a homemaker. But I fall short so often, and feel like I can’t do it. The yesterday someone asked me what was so hard about being a stay at home mom. This lovely teenage girl’s mother had been having a really hard time, and she blamed it on being a stay at home mom. At that moment I had the opportunity to make or break a mother’s spirit. “What?”, “How?” You see this momma had been having a hard time, and had confided in, and leaned on her daughter for help. I had the choice to tell her daughter all the hard things about being a homemaker, (let’s face it, it is hard) I could have blown it off and glorified being a homemaker, or I could find a balance between the two. I chose to find a balance between the two. “Why?” you ask, you see, this teenager was not merely concerned about her mother, she was also concerned about herself, and what her future may hold . Had I told her all the bad things about being a stay at home mom, I would have broken her spirit, and when the time came for her to decide her future, I would have made it that much harder for her to chose to be a homemaker. Likewise, if I had told her only the good things, I would have belittled her own mother, who was struggling, also, it’s would not have properly prepared her for life as a homemaker. She would have had false expectations. Using a balance while talking with her, helped her to think of ways that she could encourage her mother. It also helped me, because I often struggle, and get caught up in all the hard things, and I do not always take the time to think of all the GREAT! things. I was so thankful to God for allowing me this opportunity to minister to a young girl and her mother, but also that He ministered to me.

One of the things I talked with her about was the importance of being fed spiritually. I ALWAYS struggle to make time for my own spirit to be fed. So last week I decided to purpose to do something every morning to fill me up with encouragement. This morning I listened to a podcast, and it was so good.

Home Makers By Choice offers a wonderful selection of podcasts.

I want to encourage you as mom, to do something, even if it’s just one thing, to gain encouragement, and to strengthen your relationship with God, and with your children.

We do have to be careful about what we say to young girls.
