Organizing Homeschool- Part 1

This year I am determined to be organized. I really don’t see any other way to get it all done. I will admit that I am one of those people who browses Homeschool blogs, sees all these great things I want to do, but can’t get them all done, and so I overwhelm myself. So this year, I am sticking to the plan. (mostly) The next couple of post will be on how I have organized our homeschool this year.

36 Week Filing System

I decided to go ahead and organize the whole years worth of schooling. Or, at least what I could. Here’s what it looks like.

I created a folder for each week of school, 36 weeks total. I also created a folder for each letter of the alphabet. (for my Tot) Then I took 6 hanging files, and filled each one with 6 weeks worth of folders, and 6 letters of the alphabet. We will be doing simi- year round school this year, so 6 weeks at a time works for us. I will be setting up a tote that will hold, 1 hanging file (6 weeks), my teacher planner, and any books that we will use. (Post will come later)

Inside a Folder:

The first thing I did was sit down and pull apart any of their books that were using worksheets. It worked out pretty well because the lessons were already separated into weeks :). I put each kids work in a different paper clip. I also included any (or most) manipulatives needed for the lesson. Then I printed out all of the materials needed for our Bible and Science unit studies. I included the kids Draw Write Now paper needed for each child.

My 2 year old thinks that he is grown and needs to have the same thing as the big kids. So, I will being doing Letter of the Week with him. I have printed off activities for each letter, that way I am prepared, and have something for him to do while the older kids do their sheet work. In the front of each folder will be a lesson plan for him, so that my daughter can help me prepare his other activities.

I hope this was helpful to someone. I really think it is going to keep me on track.

How funny, I have felt the same way this year. I am doing almost the same thing by organizing several weeks at a time. It sure does help. I'm still fine tuning though. Sometimes I feel like we are in the same shoes when I read some of your posts.
